The dreaded Artist Statement.
A requirement of being a professional artist that many loathe. Writers don't have to illustrate their concepts, so why do artists have to write about theirs? Many of my closest artist friends have struggled to write effective artist statements and bios over the years. You are not alone.
As someone who not only loves to write, but is also an artist and gallery owner, I am uniquely situated to help others through this task.
I earned my B.A. in Creative Writing from Hunter College in 2013 and have been a writer all my life. I am an illustrator/ comics artist and a co-owner of Established Gallery in Brooklyn, NY, so I know what can put an artist statement over the top and captivate people. I have assisted many with writing their statements and bios over the years and really enjoy working with artists in this capacity. My process is simple and collaborative and will help you check this chore off your to-do list for good!
Process:
The client emails me their current artist statement and/or bio (if they have one)
I read over these materials and formulate a list of questions for you
You respond to the questions, either by e-mail or on a phone or Zoom call with me
I write a new draft of the statement and send to you for review
You come to me with questions and revisions
We finalize the statement together
Prices:
A base fee of $100-150 for an artist statement and $50-75 for a bio (depending on whether you already have a statement/bio or if we are starting from scratch)
A rush fee of $25 if you need your statement/bio to be completed in less than 5 days
During our consultation, I will give you a final quote to be paid upfront via Venmo or PayPal.
